Laboratory and field works help undergraduates deepen their understanding of the related lectures. Small-group classes improve mutual understanding between students and faculties. Graduates from our faculty find employment in private companies, enter the civil service, or become high school science or agriculture teachers. Students who want to continue their research enter Master courses in the Graduate School of Life and Environmental Science.The Faculty of Life and Environmental Science was established in October of 1995 by reorganizing the Faculty of Agriculture and the Department of Biology in the Faculty of Science. The Faculty consists of four departments: Biological Science, Life Science and Biotechnology, Agricultural and Forest Sciences, and Regional Environmental Sciences. The Marine Biological Station, University Farms, and University Forests were attached to the Faculty as the Education and Research Center for Biological Resources.The Faculty’s objectives are: (1) to understand the mechanism of biological systems, (2) to develop new technologies including biotechnology, environmental preservation and reclamation, and sustainable production systems, (3) to apply scientific results and technologies in agriculture, forestry, Our faculty seeks students who are interested in subjects including biology, life science, biotechnology, agriculture, agricultural economics, ecology, environmental science, and agricultural engineering. We provide the multidisciplinary programs from basic subjects to the latest research developments and innovations including the interdisciplinary scientific issues to develop a diverse portfolio of scientific skills to advance sustainable development and quality of life. Our programs are research-led and integrative, ensuring that our courses are at the cutting edge and that our students are prepared for the future. So far,our over 4000 graduates both at home and abroad with multidisciplinary backgrounds have been well qualified for a wide variety of careers within science-based industries, academia, research and commercial sectors.
